Barnacle Stem is a single cast pendant: hand-blown glass poured into a raw natural mould, lit from within by a warm low-voltage LED, dimmable at the wall. The cloth cord is semi-rigid and takes a set, so the piece can hang straight, drift off plumb, or settle with the cord sculpted.

Story
Barnacle began with a single piece of Douglas-fir bark, pulled from a fallen tree on the North Shore. We didn't carve it or smooth it. We cast straight into it, molten glass poured into the raw mould, taking the form the tree had already made.
Lit, the amber gathers where the glass thickens and falls away where it thins. It behaves like the thing it's named for: a cluster that catches and holds. It is one of one, because the mould only survives a single pour.

The light
A warm low-voltage LED sits where the cast runs thickest. The glass does the shading: thick sections go deep and quiet, thin sections go bright, and the bark's texture decides which is which.
It is house light, not task light. Hang it low over a table or alone in a hallway and let the wall carry the glow. It is happiest at dusk and after.
There is nothing to maintain. Dust it when you think of it.
